(BCN) -- Alcatraz Island in San Francisco will temporarily close starting Monday to allow crews to repair its docks. The repair work is expected to finish by Nov. 18, according to the National Park Service.
"Completing the repair work this fall will help ensure safe and reliable public access to Alcatraz Island for years to come," the agency said. "Inclement weather or other factors may impact the scheduled repair timeline and closure dates."
The National Park Service said Alcatraz City Cruises, the company contracted to provide ferry service to the island, is funding and conducting the repair work. The firm reportedly transports 1.5 million visitors to Alcatraz Island every year.
